What to Know About Boffin FX Adjustable Treble Bleed Circuits

Adjustable Treble Bleed Circuits are an easy to install upgrade that provide the benefit of retaining high tones at lowered volume. Many guitar players notice their guitar produce a “muddy” tone when the volume is lowered. An Adjustable Treble Bleed Circuits will fix this problem without affecting your guitar’s volume potentiometer.

The benefit of the Adjustable Treble Bleed Circuits over the standard treble bleed circuit, is you can control the amount of treble bleed effect. The Adjustable Treble Bleed Circuit can prevent the tone from becoming too bright at lowered volumes.

We sell three types of Adjustable Treble Bleed Circuits in the 1,061 Hz, 1,326 Hz and 1,592 Hz frequency cutoff ranges.

1,061 Hz is recommended for neck pickups and low output bridge and middle pickups that are under 6k.

1,326 Hz are recommended for vintage output pickups 7k to 11k, Recommended for Strat three single coil setups, along with HSS, HSH, HH.

1,592 Hz are used with high output pickups and are recommended with guitars that have one pot and high out pickups. 1,592 Hz are recommended for Telecasters to retain twang.
All of the treble bleed circuits will retain their cutoff frequency when the volume pot output is lowered.

1,592 Hz are perfect for Tele-type guitars. The higher frequency will retain highs to produce the most twang a Tele is known for.

For LP type guitars and guitars with 2 volume controls, we recommend using 1,326 Hz for bridge pickup and 1,061 Hz for neck pickup. If a high output pickup is in the bridge position, we recommend using a 1,592 Hz for the bridge pickup and 1,061 Hz for the neck pickup.

The Adjustable Treble Bleed Circuit will not affect the guitar’s tone because they are a passive low pass filter that have frequency set within the guitar’s mid-range frequency which is from 250 Hz to 4,000 Hz. It’s only at lower volumes that the treble bleed circuits effect is noticeable

When the Adjustable Treble Bleed Circuit’s trimmer is set to center, it is at 0 or no effect. When turned completely clockwise it’s at 100% producing full treble bleed effect. Turning from center to end clockwise is how the amount of treble bleed is controlled. If you feel the treble bleed is too much at 100% creating a too bright tone, you can turn it turn it back to center to minimize the treble bleed effect.
