How to Install a Push-Push Boost on a Music Man JPXI with Piezo Bridge

We all know about the Music Man JP series. It has been one of the best-selling guitars since its debut in 2001. We easily identify the guitar body’s shape. We know about the beautiful finishes. We know the piezo bridge is one of the JP’s most popular options.

Because the Music Man JP with the piezo bridge is so popular, It would be only a matter of time before a customer would contact us about installing a Push-Push Boost on one. It’s a challenge where we needed to figure out how to install the Push-Push Boost along with the piezo bridge.

The way a JPXI is setup, the piezo bridge is powered by a 9V battery that is turned on and off by the TRS input jack installed by Music Man. This is the same way the Push-Push Boost is powered using the wiring harness with the TRS jack.  There was no need to use the wiring harness that comes with the Push-Push Boost. The best approach was to leave the JPXI’s wiring intact and use piezo bridge’s battery for the Push-Push Boost. That could easily be done by splicing the wires on the battery clip that comes with the Push-Push Boost and the piezo bridge.

The rest of the installation was tracing the wires on the volume pot and tone control. We decided to splice the wires on the wiring harness and solder them to the input, output and tone control wires. An easy modification.
